No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the canvas API, so your image never leaves your device.
What quality setting should I use?
70–80% is usually invisible to the eye while cutting file size by half or more. Go lower for web thumbnails, higher for printing.
Why does the output become a JPG?
JPEG offers the best size-to-quality ratio for photos. PNG screenshots with text may look better at higher quality settings.
